Masako Tomiya

was born in Fukuoka, south Japan. From the age of 5 she took it for granted that she would become an artist especially with the influence of her photographer dad, Masahiro.
At high school, she went to an art institution everyday after school to learn the foundation of art: life drawing, painting, design and sculpture.

Traveling to England, she intended to study ceramics or sculpture but decided to pursue filmmaking and graduated in 2005 with a FdA Media Practice from The London College of Communication. There, she directed some short live action films mixed with animation.

She found that animation was essential for her way of story telling and applied to the NFTS.

She is addicted to making films with nonsense art, optical tricks, surreal world and dark fairy tales.

if you need warm-hearted local Japanese landscape/model photos, please contact Masahiro.
