Alastair graduated with a BA in Illustration and Animation from Kingston University in 2009.
At the NFTS Alastair has explored a variety of animation styles, from illustration to pixilation.
His first year film Going Out, a pixilation short, allowed him to combine straight ahead animation with live action directing. Alastair made his grad animation Bird World using a combination of 3D CG sets and live action performance, with keyframe and rotoscope animation techniques.
These processes allowed the story world and the characters to develop in parallel and create the films distinctive style. Extensive testing defined the approach to the live action section; the costume tests informed the bird character movement and the freedoms of a virtual city informed the cinematographic style. Creating worlds and finding interesting techniques to realise stories has formed the basis of Alastair's animations.
He currently has a number of short film treatments in development, and would like to pursue experimentation in different formats. Now graduated, Alastair looks forward to directing animated commercials and music videos, and any other project where he can put his distinctive visuals to good use.
